Following are some commonly asked questions from patients with our practice. If you don't find the answer to your question below, please call us at 704.439-3770.

Q: How soon do I need an appointment after I've had a positive home pregnancy test?

A: 4 weeks after you have missed your period or 8 weeks after your last period.

Q: What can I expect at my first OB visit?

A: The first visit after your positive home pregnancy test will consist of confirming your positive home pregnancy test with a more reliable pregnancy test and physical examination.

Your next visit will occur about 3-4 weeks later and will last about an hour. You will meet with the Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to review your health history and any prior pregnancies. You will have a complete exam including a pap test if you are due for one. Blood work will also be drawn at this visit.

Q: When will I be able to hear my baby's heart beat?
A: Your baby's heart beat can be heard between 10-11 weeks with a Doppler.

Q: Will I get an ultrasound?
A: Yes, generally between 18-20 weeks. This is also the time we can determine the sex of your baby. Additional ultrasounds may be done depending on your individual medical history and current pregnancy situation.
